Early-Childhood Education Center

Education in Kenya requires that each student in 8th grade
sit for a national exam to determine their eligibility to enter
secondary school. When the Rabondo Primary school students
sat for this exam in 2010, for the first time they placed last
in Rongo District. Poor performance was attributed to the
fact that many children who start grade 1st grade are not well
prepared and start school at an older age (9, 10 or 11 years). The
explanation for this is that most of these kids come from families
that are illiterate or the children are orphans and therefore
start school without learning skills. Therefore, in order for the
primary school to perform at an eighth grade level, intervention
is needed before 1st grade. In other words, an early childhood
education is a must.

RCPUSA recently initiated a fundraising campaign to do
just this. It is estimated that 100 students will need to be
accommodated, needing three classrooms
and a latrine. The fundraising campaign was
able to raise enough money to buy a piece of
land, bricks, sand, and timber for roofing.
The rest of the money was used to fence the
property. However, in order to complete
the project, more money must be raised to
purchase the remaining materials and pay for
labor to complete the three classrooms and
latrine. With your generous help, we can helps
the children of Rabondo have the best chance to begin their
education journey and have the best chances of improving their
lives and their community.
